The Surprising Scribes

The caravan city harbors great books, mysterious letters-and a world of intrigue. Merchants brought cloth, spices, and salt from far afield to trade for gold, ivory and slaves. The city once supported a flourishing industry of scribes who copied new texts brought by traders and scholars.
